sebaceous /se·ba·ceous/ (sĕ-ba´shus) pertaining to or secreting sebum.
sebaceous [sibā′shəs] Etymology: L, sebum, sweat pertaining to sebum, the substance secreted by glands of the skin. sebaceous [sĕ-ba´-shus] pertaining to or secreting sebum. sebaceous cyst a benign retention cyst of a sebaceous gland containing the fatty secretion of the gland; this may occur anywhere on the body except the palms of the hands and soles of the feet, although such cysts are most common on the scalp, back, and scrotum. It may be a source of irritation or infection, and should be excised by a health care worker. Called also wen.

They vary in size and activity between species and location. In dogs, large sebaceous glands are located on the dorsum of the tail (see tail gland) and at mucocutaneous junctions. In cats, large glands are located also on the dorsum of the tail, on the lip margins and under the chin (see submental organ). sebaceous gland secretion abnormality includes sebolith, seborrhea. sebaceous secretion see sebum. supracaudal sebaceous gland see supracaudal organ.
