screening of substances

screening of substances

The assessment of a group of candidate substances with therapeutic potential, using a battery of tests or assays (screens) designed to detect a specific biological property or activity.

While screening of substances can be conducted on a random basis—i.e.,  without any preselection criteria—targeting candidates based on substances with known activity and similar structures is more efficient.
