Emergency medicine A stance taken when a trauma victim's condition is of such severity that there is 1. Insufficient time for the usual format of medical stabilization and 2. The equipment and/or experts needed to save the victim's life are not present in the ambulatory field unit–eg, ambulance or helicopter. Cf Stay and play.
