sagittal /sag·it·tal/ (saj´ĭ-t'l) 1. shaped like an arrow. 2. situated in the direction of the sagittal suture; said of an anteroposterior plane or section parallel to the median plane of the body.
sagittal [saj′ətəl] Etymology: L, sagitta, arrow (in anatomy) pertaining to a suture or an imaginary line extending from the front to the back in the midline of the body or a part of the body, dividing into right and left parts. sagittal (saj´ adj shaped like or resembling an arrow; straight; situated in the direction of the sagittal suture.
