safelighting test, n a procedure used to determine whether darkroom lights are too bright. It involves bringing unprocessed film into the darkroom and placing a coin on the film. The safelight is then turned on for a short period of time, and the film is processed normally. Evidence of the coin's shape on the film will disqualify the safelight.
