n an unofficial unit of dose used with ionizing radiation other than roentgen rays or gamma rays. It is defined as the dose that produces an energy absorption of 93 ergs per gram of tissue. For most purposes the rep can be considered equal to the rad; the latter is gradually replacing the use of rep.
