Ring Sign

A term referring to the appearance by CT urography or by intravenous pyelography in which radiocontrast outlines sloughing (detached) renal papillae in papillary necrosis, which often have a triangular shape

ring sign

Imaging Annular filling defect(s) in the renal calices by IVP, which correspond to necrotic sloughed renal papilla, seen in analgesic abuse, papillary necrosis, sickle cell anemia. See Analgesic abuse, Obstructive uropathy, Papillary necrosis, Sickle cell anemia.
