papilla(e) (p papilla, incisive, n the elevation of soft tissue covering the foramen of the incisive or nasopalatine canal. papilla, retrocuspid, n benign nodules of the gingival tissues that occur lingual to the mandibular canines. These nodules are distinguished at a microscopic level by stellate fibroblasts within the fibrous connective tissue.
