the postural relation of the mandible to the maxillae when the patient is resting comfortably in the upright position and the condyles are in a neutral unstrained position in the glenoid fossa.

rest jaw relation

the postural relation of the mandible to the maxilla when the patient is resting comfortably in the upright position. The condyles are in a neutral, unstrained position in the mandibular fossae, and the mandibular musculature is in a state of minimum tonic contraction necessary to maintain the posture.
