In Japan, clinical studies of NESP(R) were initiated in 2000 in hemodialysis patients, and an application for approval was filed in 2005 for the treatment of renal anemia in patients receiving dialysis.
A Roche spokeswoman said the firm will continue its plans this year to request regulatory approval for Cera, its renal anemia treatment drug.
Principal treatment of renal anemia consists of effective dialysis, restoration of missing components (especially iron), control of renal osteodystrophy, as well as erythropoietin therapy.
