red raspberry

The aromatic, sweet, and mildly tart fruit of a northern hemispheric thorny vine (Rubus idaeus), eaten raw or prepared in jams and jellies. It is a rich food source of many nutrients, including fiber, carbohydrates, minerals, and vitamin C. It is promoted in alternative medicine as a means of inducing labor, alleviating menstrual cramping, and treating colds, among other uses.
Synonym: Rubis idaeus.
