[rek′tilin′ē·ər]
a device that generates an image of an anatomic structure by detecting radioactivity within the structure.

rectilinear scanner
a scintillation crystal probe on an arm that traverses the area to be scanned in a rectilinear pattern. Used to measure the distribution of radionuclide in organs. The output is recorded photographically.
