radiocarpal articulation
[-kär′pəl]
Etymology: L, radius + Gk, karpos, wrist
the condyloid joint at the wrist that connects the radius and distal surface of an articular disk with the scaphoid, lunate, and triangular bones. The joint involves four ligaments and allows all movements but rotation. The capsule of the wrist joint is reinforced by palmar radiocarpal, palmar ulnocarpal, and dorsal radiocarpal ligaments. In addition, radial and ulnar collateral ligaments of the joint span the distance between the styloid processes of the radius and ulna and the adjacent carpal bones. Also called wrist joint.
