racemic [rāsē′mik] Etymology: L, racemus, bunch of grapes pertaining to a compound made up of equal amounts of dextrorotatory and levorotatory isomers, rendering it optically inactive under polarized light. racemic(rā·sēˑ·mik), n a combination of both levorotatory and dextrorotatory isomers in an optically active substance.
