qi, defensive (chē),
n one of two forms of qi that true qi assumes; it is yang in nature, and its function is to take a protective, exterior role and position in the body. It is not believed to be able to enter the channels, so it flows under the skin and between muscles, where it is diffused over the abdomen and chest and turns to vapor between membranes.
