pudendal plexus

pudendal plexus,

a network of motor and sensory nerves formed by the anterior branches of the second and the third and all of the fourth sacral nerves. It is often considered part of the sacral plexus. The pudendal plexus lies in the posterior hollow of the pelvis. The branches of the plexus are the visceral branches, the muscular branches, and the pudendal nerve. The visceral branches arise from the second, third, and fourth sacral nerves and supply the bladder, prostate, seminal vesicles, uterus, external genitalia, and some of the intestinal tract. The muscular branches arise from the fourth and sometimes the third and fifth sacral nerves and supply the levator ani, sphincter ani, and coccygeus. Compare lumbar plexus, sacral plexus.
