pseudomembranous enterocolitis
n.
Enterocolitis with the formation and passage of pseudomembranous material in the stools; it commonly follows prolonged antibiotic therapy. Also called pseudomembranous colitis, pseudomembranous enteritis.

inflammation of the small intestine and colon. Classifications include eosinophilic, granulomatous, hemorrhagic, plasmacytic, pseudomembranous, ulcerative.

antibiotic-associated enterocolitis
that in which treatment with antibiotics alters the bowel flora and results in diarrhea or pseudomembranous enterocolitis.
hemorrhagic enterocolitis
enterocolitis characterized by hemorrhagic breakdown of the intestinal mucosa, with inflammatory cell infiltration.
pseudomembranous enterocolitis
an acute inflammation of the bowel mucosa, with the formation of pseudomembranous plaques, usually associated with antimicrobial therapy.
ulcerative enterocolitis
ulcers of the enteric mucosa resulting from bacterial or fungal infection of pre-existing erosions; can also result from tannin poisoning as in horses which consume foliage of oak trees.
