The result is an expansion of plasma volume proportionately greater than the increased erythropoiesis; thus, a normal number of red blood cells (RBC) is diluted, lowering the hemoglobin concentration and creating a dilutional pseudoanemia (1).
The degree of dilutional pseudoanemia roughly correlates to the amount of exercise.
