protanomaly /pro·ta·nom·a·ly/ (pro″tah-nom´ah-le) anomalous trichromatic vision with defective perception of red.
protanomaly A type of anomalous trichromatism in which an abnormally high proportion of the red primary stimulus is needed when mixing red and green to match a given yellow. This is due to the fact that the luminosity function of a protanomal is reduced for the red radiations. The condition occurs in less than 1% of the male population. Syn. protanomalous trichromatism; protanomalous vision; red-weakness. See anomaloscope; defective colour vision; pseudoisochromatic plates; trichromatism. How to thank TFD for its existence?
