Walking or resting with the body horizontal, denoting the posture of quadrupeds; opposed to orthograde.

Walking with the long axis of the body parallel to the ground, as do most quadrupeds.

In animals, walking on the hands and feet or resting with the body in a horizontal position. It is the opposite of orthograde.
