Vesicle A bump on the skin filled with fluid.
vesicle [ves′ikəl] Etymology: L, vesicula a small bladder or blister, containing clear fluid. Compare bulla. vesicular, adj. vesicle [ves´ĭ-k'l] 1. a small bladder or sac containing liquid. 2. a small circumscribed elevation of the epidermis containing a serous fluid; a small blister. allantoic vesicle the internal hollow portion of the allantois. auditory vesicle a detached ovoid sac formed by closure of the auditory pit in the early embryo, from which the percipient parts of the inner ear develop. brain v's the five divisions of the closed neural tube in the developing embryo, including the telencephalon, diencephalon, mesencephalon, metencephalon, and myelencephalon. brain v's, primary the three earlier subdivisions of the embryonic neural tube, including the forebrain, midbrain, and hindbrain. brain v's, secondary the four brain vesicles formed by specialization of the forebrain and of the hindbrain in later embryonic development. chorionic vesicle the chorion of a mammal. encephalic v's brain vesicles. germinal vesicle the fluid-filled nucleus of an oocyte toward the end of prophase of its meiotic division. lens vesicle a vesicle formed from the lens pit of the embryo, developing into the crystalline lens. olfactory vesicle 1. the vesicle in the embryo that later develops into the olfactory bulb and tract. 2. a bulbous expansion at the distal end of an olfactory cell, from which the olfactory hairs project. optic vesicle an evagination on either side of the forebrain of the early embryo, from which the percipient parts of the eye develop. otic vesicle auditory vesicle. seminal vesicle paired sacculated pouches attached to the posterior urinary bladder; the duct of each joins the ipsilateral ductus deferens to form the ejaculatory duct. umbilical vesicle the pear-shaped expansion of the yolk sac growing out into the cavity of the chorion, joined to the midgut by the yolk stalk.
vesicle (ves´ik n 1. a small, blisterlike elevation of the skin or mucous membrane resulting from an intraepithelial collection of fluid. It is a primary type of lesion and may be seen in herpes simplex, recurrent herpes, recurrent aphthae, stomatitis medicamentosa, stomatitis venenata, erythema multiforme, Reiter's syndrome, Behçet's syndrome, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, herpangina, varicella, and many others.
n 2. a circumscribed, elevated lesion of the skin containing fluid and having a diameter of up to 5 mm. vesicle 1. a small bladder or sac containing liquid. 2. a small circumscribed elevation of the epidermis containing a serous fluid; a small blister. See also vesicular disease. auditory vesicle a detached ovoid sac formed by closure of the auditory pit in the early embryo, from which the percipient parts of the inner ear develop. brain v's the five divisions of the closed neural tube in the developing embryo, including the telencephalon, diencephalon, mesencephalon, metencephalon and myelencephalon. chorionic vesicle see chorionic vesicle. clear vesicle neuronal vesicles which occur in neuronal terminals in which acetylcholine is the transmitter. coated vesicle see coated pits. compound vesicle multilocular vesicle. dense core vesicle neuronal vesicles which occur in neuronal terminals in which norepinephrine or other catecholamine is the transmitter. Called also granular vesicle. encephalic v's brain vesicles. germinal vesicle the fluid-filled nucleus of an oocyte toward the end of prophase of its meiotic division. granular vesicle see dense core vesicle (above). lens vesicle a vesicle formed from the lens pit of the embryo, developing into the crystalline lens. matrix v's vesicles found in hyaline cartilage; are starting points for growth plate mineralization. multilocular vesicle a vesicle with multiple chambers or compartments. olfactory vesicle 1. the vesicle in the embryo which later develops into the olfactory bulb and tract. 2. a bulbous expansion at the distal end of an olfactory cell, from which the olfactory hairs project. otic vesicle auditory vesicle. pinocytotic v's vesicles which appear in vascular endothelium; may participate in transcapillary movement of macromolecules. primary brain v's the three earlier subdivisions of the embryonic neural tube, including the forebrain, midbrain and hindbrain. secondary brain v's the four brain vesicles formed by specialization of the forebrain and of the hindbrain in later embryonic development. secretory v's vesicles found in rough excretory endoplasm of cells. seminal v's paired sacculated pouches that overlie the urinary bladder in the males of some species; in some the pouch is a simple sac, in others a compound acinous gland, and in some the duct of each joins the ipsilateral ductus deferens to form the ejaculatory duct. In the boar and stallion it produces a bulky ejaculate. See also vesicular gland. transfer v's vesicles found in rough endoplasmic reticulum of cells. transport vesicle membrane bound vesicle, pinched off from endoplasmic reticulum, containing macromolecules to be transported to other parts of the cell. umbilical vesicle
the pear-shaped expansion of the yolk sac growing out into the cavity of the chorion, joined to the midgut by the yolk stalk. vesicle 1. A small bladder or sac containing liquid. 2. A small elevation on the skin containing fluid, usually serous fluid. 3. Any structure that has the appearance of 1 or 2 above. optic vesicle's Hollow, spherical neuroectodermal protrusions, one on each side of the forebrain. They are derived from the optic pits after closure of the embryonic neural tube. They subsequently invaginate to form the optic cup. The surface ectoderm overlying the optic vesicles invaginates to form the lens vesicle and eventually the crystalline lens. Syn. primary optic vesicle. See anophthalmia; optic cup; ectoderm; optic pit. vesicle Dermatology A small skin blister Want to thank TFD for its existence?
