Emergency medicine A condition seen in 'arrested' Pts in whom CPR is delayed, characterized by protracted ↓ in cardiac output, despite normal BP, due to a combination of pump failure, microthromboembolism–2º to intravascular obstruction, causing ↑ systemic vascular resistence, DIC, vasospasm–multi-organ failure, lung insufficiency, and cerebral ischemia triggering arrhythmias, renal shutdown, pulmonary edema. Cf Post-perfusion syndrome.
