Arcanobacterium pyogenes the common cause with Fusobacterium necrophorum and Prevotellamelaninogenica as contaminants. End result can be pyometra or infertility due to endometritis.
postpartum septic metritis
commonly associated with retained placenta and poor uterine involution. Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Arcanobacterium pyogenes, Streptococcus spp., Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus spp., rarely Clostridium spp. are common infections responsible for the putrid smell of the exudate and severe toxemia.
