porta /por·ta/ (por´tah) pl. por´tae [L.] portal; an entrance, especially the site of entrance to an organ of the blood vessels and other structures supplying or draining it. porta he´patis the transverse fissure on the visceral surface of the liver where the portal vein and hepatic artery enter and the hepatic ducts leave.
