pore (por) a small opening or empty space.
alveolar pores  openings between adjacent pulmonary alveoli that permit passage of air from one to another.
nuclear pores  small octagonal openings in the nuclear envelope at sites where the two nuclear membranes are in contact, which together with the annuli form the pore complex.
slit pores  small slitlike spaces between the pedicels of the podocytes of the renal glomerulus.
