pneumatic lithotripsy

lithotripsy /litho·trip·sy/ (lith´o-trip″se) the crushing of a calculus within the urinary system or gallbladder, followed at once by the washing out of the fragments; it may be performed surgically or by noninvasive methods, such as by laser or by shock waves.
extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy  a procedure for treating upper urinary tract stones: the patient is immersed in a large tub of water and a high-energy shock wave generated by a high-voltage spark is focused on the stone by an ellipsoid reflector. The stone disintegrates into particles, which are passed in the urine.
pneumatic lithotripsy  lithotripsy in which a rigid probe is inserted through the ureter and pneumatic pressure is applied directly to the calculus.
