1. a portion of something larger.
2. in chemistry, one of the separable constituents of a substance.frac´tional

ejection fraction  the proportion of the volume of blood in the ventricles at the end of diastole that is ejected during systole; it is the stroke volume divided by the end-diastolic volume, often expressed as a percentage. It is normally 65 ± 8 per cent; lower values indicate ventricular dysfunction.
plasma protein fraction  a preparation of serum albumin and globulin obtained by fractionating source blood, plasma, or serum from healthy human donors; used as a blood volume supporter.
