pepsinogen /pep·sin·o·gen/ (pep-sin´ah-jin) a zymogen secreted by the chief cells of the gastric glands and converted into pepsin in the presence of gastric acid or of pepsin itself.
pepsinogen [pəpsin′əjən] Etymology: Gk, pepsis + genein, to produce a zymogenic substance secreted by pyloric and gastric chief cells. It is converted to the enzyme pepsin in an acidic environment, as in the presence of hydrochloric acid produced in the stomach. pepsinogen [pep-sin´o-jen] a zymogen secreted by the chief cells of the gastric glands and converted into pepsin in the presence of gastric acid or of pepsin itself.
