1. a sound or murmur heard in auscultation, especially an abnormal one.
2. sound (3).

aneurysmal bruit  a blowing sound heard over an aneurysm.
placental bruit  see under souffle.

placental bruit
Etymology: L, placenta, flat cake; Fr, bruit, noise
a humming noise caused by fetal circulation, heard in the pregnant uterus. It is synchronized with the mother's pulse.

aneurysmal bruit
a blowing sound heard over an aneurysm.
cardiac bruit
see heart murmur.
placental bruit
a soft, blowing auscultatory sound supposed to be produced by the blood current in the placenta. Called also placental souffle.
