The smallest image-forming unit of a video display.

pixel [pik´sel]
a picture element; a CT scan or PET scan is composed of an array of squares (pixels), each of which is colored a uniform shade of gray or another color. The corresponding region in the tissue slice that is imaged is called a voxel (volume element).

Bitmap--A way of representing an image as rows and columns of values, with each picture element stored as one or more numbers that represent its brightness and color.
Pixels or picture elements are any of the minute areas of uniform illumination of which an image on a digital display screen is composed.
The tiniest dots of color you see on your computer or television screen are called picture elements, or pixels for short.
