phenolate /phe·no·late/ (fe´no-lāt)
1. to treat with phenol for purposes of sterilization.
2. a salt formed by union of a base with phenol, in which a monovalent metal, such as sodium or potassium, replaces the hydrogen of the hydroxyl group.
