phalloidine [faloi′din] a poison present in the mushroom Amanita phalloides. Ingestion of phalloidine results in bloody diarrhea, vomiting, severe abdominal pain, kidney failure, and liver damage. Approximately 50% of phalloidine poisonings are fatal. Also spelled phalloidin. phalloidin, phalloidine a hexapeptide toxin from the mushroom Amanita phalloides, which causes fatal liver necrosis.
