persona /per·so·na/ (per-so´nah) [L.] in jungian psychology, the personality mask or facade presented by a person to the outside world, as opposed to the anima, the inner being.

The role that one assumes or displays in public or society; one's public image or personality, as distinguished from the inner self.

Etymology: L, mask
(in analytic psychology) the personality façade or role that a person assumes and presents to the outer world to satisfy the demands of the environment or society or to express some intrapsychic conflict. The persona masks the person's inner being or unconscious self. Compare anima. See also archetype.
