erection
[irek′shən]
Etymology: L, erigere, to erect
the condition of hardness, swelling, and elevation observed in the penis and to a lesser degree in the clitoris, usually caused by sexual arousal but also occurring during sleep or after physical stimulation. It results when additional blood enters the organ and blood pressure within the organ increases, and it is influenced by psychic and nerve stimulation. Erection enables the penis to enter the vagina and to emit semen. See also ejaculation, nocturnal emission, priapism.

erection [e-rek´shun]
1. the condition of becoming rigid and elevated, as erectile tissue when filled with blood.
2. especially the swelling and rigidity that occur in the penis as a result of sexual or other types of stimulation. Impulses received by the nervous system stimulate a flow of blood from the arteries leading to the penis, where the erectile tissue fills with blood, and the penis becomes firm and erect. Erection makes possible the transmission of semen into the body of the female (see reproduction). Erection can also occur to some extent in the clitoris and the nipples of the female. Dysfunction of the process of erection in a male is called impotence.

persistent erection

Patient discussion about erection.

Q. I started to suffer from erectile dysfunction? Why is this happening and what can I do to treat it? I am a healthy 52 year old. I have hypertension but i take pills to treat it and my levels are around 130/80. except that I am at great shape. In the last few months I feel that a problem in my sex life. I want to have sex but i can't due to erectile dysfunction. What can be the reason for this? and more important what can I do?

A. There can be many reasons for erectile dysfunction, but hypertension is the most probable cause in your situation. I suffer from hypertension and is complications that are damage to small blood vessels that are responsible for a good erection.
To treat this you need to go to your GP, and simultaneously take better control on your blood pressure. You can do it by doing more walking and sports.

Q. What are some ways to get an erection? Libido and sperm are OK. I have had a problem with depression for years. I have always had a strong libido and I find that my ED has been a factor in my depression. Sexual relationships have helped me deal with my depression. What a MIRACLE! How can something so good be a remedy for mental problems. Oh! for a good stiff dick. I have considered a penile prosthesis implant but I'm still hoping for something better. Any information that might help would be greatly appreciated and I will remember you in my dreams and fantasies(sexual)for you ladies and I'll thank you studs. John

A. I am a female but my husband likes to think about a womans vagina. So maybe you should get a fake vagina try Adameve.com. And also try lubricants and other things, think about what turns you on.

Q. I can get erections and I am ok as long as I am on top. If I have my girlgriend get on the top no more erect. Not enough space for question. I lose my erection when my girlfriend is on top. It just does not seem to be as erect as it used to. I am only thirty-one is this normal?

A. hmm... as far as I know erection shouldn't be affected by your body position, so it doesn't sound like some kind of a physical problem - maybe the issue is more mental than physical? Has it happend with other partners, and in other positions other than girl on top?

He said the patient, whose identity was withheld, suffers from priapism, a persistent erection of the penis often due to a blood clot in the erectile tissue.
These drugs may create unwanted side effects, however, including persistent erection (known as priapism) and scarring.
If this happens in the vessels of the penis, then persistent erection could occur.
