perosis

a disease of young birds caused by a nutritional deficiency of manganese and characterized by a deformity of the leg bones. There is gross enlargement of the tibiotarsal joint and deformity of the bones above and below the joint, and slipping of the gastrocnemius tendon from the condyles. The birds are crippled and usually die of starvation.
