hygroma col´li a watery tumor of the neck. cystic hygroma , hygroma cys´ticum a lymphangioma usually occurring in the neck and composed of large, multilocular, thin-walled cysts.
hygroma [hī·grō′mə] pl. hygromas, hygromata Etymology: Gk, hygros, moist + -oma, tumor a sac, cyst, or bursa distended with a fluid. hygroma [hi-gro´mah] (pl. hygromas, hygro´mata) an accumulation of fluid in a sac, cyst, or bursa. adj., adj hygrom´atous. cystic hygroma (hygroma cys´ticum) an endothelium-lined, fluid-containing lesion of lymphatic origin, encountered most often in infants and children and occurring in various regions of the body, most commonly in the posterior triangle of the neck, behind the sternocleidomastoid muscle (hygroma colli cysticum). Fleischmann's hygroma enlargement of a bursa in the floor of the mouth, to the outer side of the genioglossus muscle.

It may be large, thereby impairing breathing and swallowing. hygroma an accumulation of fluid in a sac, cyst or bursa. carpal hygroma cystic hygroma, hygroma cysticum an endothelium-lined, fluid-containing lesion of lymphatic origin. elbow hygroma a fluid-filled, painless, subcutaneous swelling over the point of the elbow involving the formation of a false bursa. Occurs mainly in the large breeds of dogs and in horses where it is called shoe boil. hock hygroma a swelling of the subcutaneous bursa over the tuber calcis. The initial soft fluctuating swelling is replaced by a firm fibrous capsule to form a hygroma. Called also capped hock. perirenal hygroma see feline perirenal cysts.
