period, latent (lā´t
n the area of delay between the time of exposure of an organism to radiation and the manifestation of the changes produced by that radiation. This delay depends on many factors but particularly on the magnitude of the dose. The larger the dose, the earlier the appearance of the injury. In some instances the latent period for some effects may be as long as 25 years or more. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
