periadenitis muco´sa necro´tica recur´rens  the more severe form of aphthous stomatitis, marked by recurrent attacks of aphtha-like lesions that begin as small firm nodules and enlarge, ulcerate, and heal to leave numerous atrophied scars on the oral mucosa.

Recurrent aphthous stomatitis, marked by attacks of lesions that begin as small, firm nodules which then enlarge, ulcerate, and heal by scar formation, leaving numerous atrophied scars on the oral mucosa. Also called Sutton's disease.

periadenitis mucosa necrotica recurrens (PMNR) (per´ēad´nī´tis),
n involvement of the oral mucosa with deep-seated aphthouslike ulcers that tend to heal with scars. It may be impossible to differentiate the disease from Behçet's syndrome in the absence of a diagnosis of cyclic neutropenia. Also called
recurrent scarring aphtha, Sutton's disease, major aphthous. See also disease, Miculicz'.
