a relationship of a quantity of solute to the quantity of solution, multiplied by 100, expressed in terms of mass of solute per mass of solution. It can be expressed in terms of mass solute per mass solution, volume solute per volume solution, or mass solute (g) per volume (mL) solution. An example of a 5% by mass solution is 5 g of glucose dissolved in 95 g of water, forming 100 g of solution.
