pemphigoid, benign mucous membrane (pem´figoid), n a bullous disease that resembles pemphigus but is more chronic in nature. The oral mucosa, especially the gingiva where it resembles desquamative gingivitis, and conjunctiva are the sites of predilection. Skin is involved in approximately 20% of the cases.
