paxillin

(pak'sĭl-in),
A 68-kD cytoskeletal protein containing multiple domains that appears to participate in actin-membrane attachment at sites of cell adhesion to the extracellular matrix. It may also be involved in the regulation of the growth and organization of the cytoskeleton.

This initial step phosphorylates focal adhesion kinase (FAK) and paxillin, which are proteins associated with adhesion and the serine/threonine kinase MAPK whose resulting cascade is responsible for gene expression, mitosis, differentiation, proliferation, and survival [13].
This complex consists of alpha-actinin and talin which bind to the cytoplasmic C-terminal tail of the integrin and paxillin and vinculin which bind to talin and alphctinin.
Downstream signaling molecules are also activated, including p21 activated kinase, Akt, Cdc42, and protein kinase C, as well as focal adhesion kinase, Pyk2, paxillin, and extracellular signal-regulated kinase; all these are important in the adhesion process, leading to modulation of cell migration.
