Q. My friend refuses to accept that he is a bipolar and not willing to consult a doctor. I met my college mate yesterday. He used to be lively during college days and those green days are still in my memory. But shockingly, he is showing different symptoms as I get a strong doubt that something bad must have happened to him. I can only identify him with his appearance but he is showing a different mannerism which has confused me a lot. Can people change or show different identity as days pass by? A. Look, diagnosing a bipolar (as well as other diseases, psychiatric as well as other types) requires a bit more than two sentences. Emotional stress isn't bipolar- but then, I don't know how you've acted and all the other things one must assess before diagnosing a bipolar disorder.

As your mom is getting older, she could have been affected psychologically. May be you need to spend quality time with your mom and engage her in spiritual or other activities of her interest? According to the National Institutes of Health, out of 35 million people aged 65 or above, about 2.5 million suffer from full-blow depression and 5 million suffer from less severe forms of depression.
