Passive agglutination in which red blood cells are used to adsorb soluble antigen onto their surfaces; the red blood cells then agglutinate in the presence of antiserum specific for the adsorbed antigen. Also called indirect hemagglutination test.

For simplicity, antibody refers to the results of a passive hemagglutination test.
All serum samples were initially screened with a passive hemagglutination assay to detect immunoglobulin (Ig) G antibody against F1 antigen of Y.
HS serotyping, in which passive hemagglutination was used to detect heat-stable antigens, was performed by the method of Penner and Hennessy (28).
