notch (noch) incisure; an indentation on the edge of a bone or other organ.
aortic notch  dicrotic n.
cardiac notch 
1. (of stomach) a notch at the junction of the esophagus and the greater curvature of the stomach.
2. (of left lung) a notch in the anterior border of the left lung.
dicrotic notch  a small downward deflection in the arterial pulse or pressure contour immediately following the closure of the semilunar valves and preceding the dicrotic wave, sometimes used as a marker for the end of systole or the ejection period.
mastoid notch  a deep groove on the medial surface of the mastoid process of the temporal bone, giving attachment to the posterior belly of the digastric muscle.
parotid notch  the notch between the ramus of the mandible and the mastoid process of the temporal bone.
Rivinus' notch , tympanic notch a defect in the upper tympanic part of the temporal bone, filled by the upper portion of the tympanic membrane.
