A camphorated tincture of opium, taken internally for the relief of diarrhea and intestinal pain.

a camphorated tincture of opium.
indications It is prescribed in the treatment of diarrhea and as an analgesic.
contraindications Known hypersensitivity to this drug or to any opium derivative prohibits its use. It should not be used when diarrhea is caused by a toxic substance.
adverse effects Drowsiness and dizziness are common. When used as directed, nausea and constipation may occur. Other adverse effects include respiratory depression, hypotension and miosis, and, with continued use, psychologic dependence.

paregoric
a mixture of powdered opium, anise oil, benzoic acid, camphor and glycerin, in diluted alcohol, used as an antiperistaltic, especially in the treatment of diarrhea.
