n brand names: Cerespan, Genabid, Pavabid, Pavacot, Pavagen, Pavased, others;
drug class: peripheral vasodilator;
action: relaxes all smooth muscle, inhibits cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase, which increases intracellular cAMP, causing vasodilation;
uses: arterial spasm resulting in cerebral and peripheral ischemia; myocardial ischemia associated with vascular spasms or dysrhythmias, angina pectoris, peripheral and pulmonary embolism; visceral spasm, as in ureteral, biliary, gastrointestinal colic.
