pangamic acid

A substance that lacks the properties of a vitamin, samples of which, when subjected to chemical analysis, consists of dimethylglycine hydrochloride mixed with sodium nitrate. Pangamic acid is claimed to prevent cancer, but may itself be carcinogenic as it is positive by the Ames test; there is no evidence that pangamic acid is an essential human nutrient.
