A soft ductile metallic element occurring naturally with platinum, especially in gold, nickel, and copper ores, and used as a catalyst in hydrogenation and in dentistry. Atomic number 46.

palladium (Pd) (plā´dēm),
n a hard, silvery metallic element that is highly resistant to tarnish and corrosion. Its atomic number is 46 and its atomic weight is 106.42. Palladium is used in high-grade surgical instruments and in dental inlays, bridgework, and orthodontic appliances.
