velum /ve·lum/ (ve´lum) pl. ve´la   [L.] a covering structure or veil.ve´lar
velum interpo´situm ce´rebri  membranous roof of the third ventricle.
medullary velum  one of the two portions (superior medullary v. and inferior medullary v.) of the white substance that form the roof of the fourth ventricle.
velum palati´num  soft palate.

1. An anatomical structure resembling a veil or curtain. Also called veil, velamen.
3. A serous membrane or membranous envelope or covering.
