out of phase

Not in phase, moving in opposite directions at the same time; 180° out of phase; a possible characteristic of two simultaneous oscillations of similar frequency.

out of phase

a series of events or actions that are not synchronous with a previously established periodic process or phenomenon. An oscillation or periodic process that runs in an opposite direction or pattern is sometimes described as 180 degrees out of phase.
